Abbeyfeale B 3 - Ferry Rangers 3

Seniors Out of Reidy Cup in Penalty shoot out

If you wanted entertainment on a Sunday afternoon, Abbeyfeale was the place to be in 2nd round cup competition. This game had everything, forget about Sky sports, you had to see it live.

The game started at a fierce pace and it was Ferry that had the control at midfield, giving great ball to the wingers.

Ferry got a free kick on the right, Paddy Moriarty wripped in a great ball to the back post for Conor Flavin to head home. Unfortunatly the lead didn't last long as Abbey equalised after ten minutes.

Ferry scored their second goal when John Healy flighted a long ball towards goal, Conor Flavin again headed home over the keeper. Abbey forced play from here on and eventually equalised from a header at back post. The intensity now very high there was some tough tackles going in and of course the ref was handing out yellow cards. The supporters could see that it wouldn't be long before a sending off. Five minutes later a player from each team got their marching orders.

Into extra time their was tired legs out there by both teams. Abbey kept forcing us back but we kept soaking the pressure and then we broke up the field forced a powerfull shot at the keeper only to he parry the shot, Conor Flavin drove home for his 3rd of the day. Abbey didn't give up and then with three minutes their got a dubious penalty for them to score. Abbey had another player sent off in the final minute before we went into penalties.

After today we need to practice our penalty shooting. The pressure is always tough in penalty shoot outs.

I'm afraid it got to us more than Abbey, Andrew Flavin in goals saved three penalties for Ferry and still ended up loosing the game.

The entertainment and excitement of the game was brilliant, well done to all players for their committment.
